I got this for my husband as a gift and we both love it. He collects pin up photos and has tons hanging up in his garage. I loved the variety in this book. There are all kinds of different artist and though some of the pages are not in Enligh we loved looking at all the different styles of pin ups. We plan to take his favorites out and add them to his garage walls. This is one of the best valued books for what you get. Couldn't be happier!

I knew I would love this book, it is a great price for size and content. It looks great on my coffee table and though I knew it would be a hit with my pin up loving girlfriends even their husbands and my own couldn't put it down. It's a hit for young adults and the old, male or female. If you are looking for a conversation piece that will also be a good read curled up in front of the fire on a rainy day, this is your book.
Anything by or about or including Edward Runci I have to have, he painted 2 portraits of me in the early 80's, I only have one but it's my prized possession. A truly great artist of both pin ups and portraits of famous & not so famous people.
Too bad I can only read half of it.
By far the best history of the great pin-ups of the world. This book by far exceeded my expectations. So much so that I just ordered two more to give as gifts. You can't beat this book especially for the price. So thrilled with this purchase!
Like most Taschen art books, this is a high quality publication, nicely printed and bound. There is a good deal of information and many paintings for the top artists (Elvgren, Petty, etc) and short bios and paintings for dozens more. The paintings are why you'd buy it of course, and the reproductions are excellent. Often the editors did not have originals to work from but that seldom shows. A very few of the larger prints of what must be reproductions are a bit blurry, but not many. However, I personally would have preferred fewer examples so that more of the paintings could be full page. Lots are, but in more cases the reproductions are quarter page and sometimes nine to a page. They are still very good due to the quality reproduction, but lose much of their impact. And impact, after all, is what pin-up art was all about. Still, there's something to be said for quantity too, and this 447-page book has hundreds of fine paintings. Two other quibbles. This hardback has a printed cover, rather than a paper cover, which to me makes it less classy as a display book. I know, I know, it's a pin-up book, but still. Also, like many art books, all the descriptions (the words) are in English, German and French. No complaint, but it's worth knowing in advance that many pages are dedicated to this duplication. That said, if the subject interests you, this is a must have, just like another of the authors' pin-up books for Taschen, Gil Elvgren All His Glamorous American Pin-Ups (Taschen 25th Anniversary Special Editions).
I had been burned by pin-up books before and was apprehensive about this one. What I wanted was a book of portraits. Pin-up portraits are gorgeous and its not necessarily easy to find the classy, vintage ones. A couple books that I had bought before were mostly a history of. This book was perfect! Each chapter had their own "girl" with history about her life and a wide arrangement of photos from that model! This was exactly what I was looking for!
It's a huge, thick, heavy, nicely bound coffee table book. Much nicer than I expected for the crazy low price (I got it on sale for a little more than $13!). Some of the drawings are full page, while other pages are collages of pictures, while some of the primarily text pages have very small pictures here and there on the page. I primarily bought this for the artwork, so it doesn't bother me too much that only a few pages throughout are written in English, but still it would be nice if I could read and understand all of it.
